This paper proposes improved version of existing salp swarm algorithm (SSA) using recently developed opposition-based learning method called parallel mirrors technique (PMT). The improved version of SSA i.e. PMT-SSA is tested on 7 unimodal and 6 multimodal mathematical benchmark functions. The developed algorithm is further applied to solve economic load dispatch problem in power system. The results compared with SSA algorithm verify the superiority of PMT-SSA in solving optimization problems.
